Students should be taught that the progressive aspect signals either the completion or the continuation of an action in the past.
Students need to be aware that every time the present continuous is used in English the meaning conveyed is that of an action in course.
Students must learn that the meaning implied in the use of the continuous aspect is dependent on the social environment of the reader.
It is relevant to teach students that the meaning embedded in the use of aspect in the English verb is partially defined by the context of the text.
In teaching aspect in the English verb system, teachers must tell students to always translate the continuous forms for the gerund equivalent in Portuguese.
